Large Courses Community of Practice (LCCOP)

The Large Course Community of Practice (LCCOP) is a resource and networking community to support instructors teaching large courses across campus (100+ students).
What Is the LCCOP?
Based on pedagogically supporting techniques, tools, and strategies, and CUB’s Improving Large Courses Initiative, the LCCOP has data-driven and tested techniques to help improve student engagement, retention, and learning in large classes. THE LCCOP provides an opportunity to:
- Explore teaching and learning challenges faced in large courses
- Share resources and strategies for teacher and learner success
- Collaborate in creating and implementing best practices for large courses
What Is the LCCOP Mission?
The mission of the LCCOP is to:
- Connect large-enrollment course instructors across campus and disciplines
- Share knowledge on improving instructional practices through resources, tools, and discussion
- Integrate evidence based strategies to promote learner success in large courses
What Does LCCOP Offer?
The LCCOP provides the opportunities to engage and learn from:
- Monthly Meetings
- Engage in critical discussions and reflection of teaching and learning in large courses.
- Generate ideas to assemble a CANVAS course page for large course instructors to access, use, collaborate resources and strategies.
- Workshops & Events
- Participate in related workshops to acquire practical applications
- Attend guest speaker events that highlight currents trends and research on improving learner success in large courses.
- Large Course Network Email List
- Stay informed year-round with news, events, and resources related to teaching and learning in large courses
- Collaboratively create and access a shared CANVAS resource

The LCCOP will have 2 in-person events per semester for faculty to meet and generate ideas to assemble onto a Canvas course page and discuss any application of these resources with support from the CTL. These meetings are also a space to simply network and see how these resources can apply to your course as time and effort allows. Online communities and discussion through the Canvas page will allow faculty to share thoughts between in-person meetings and browse resources.
