Teaching from original works of art is central to our mission. We encourage scholars, artists, educators, students and others to make use of our Collection Study Center and related digital resources. Our staff regularly works with 麻豆免费版下载Boulder faculty鈥攕electing objects, consulting on crafting assignments, and teaching classes in the museum鈥攁nd we are eager to form relationships with departments and programs across the campus. We can design customized professional development sessions as well as special tours, projects and programs that complement 麻豆免费版下载Boulder curricula.

Collection Study Center

We are proud to highlight our Collection Study Center, where we facilitate the study and research of our permanent collection by faculty, students and scholars. The study center is a fully wired 鈥渟mart classroom鈥 and can accommodate classes up to 20听students. It鈥檚 also available by appointment for individual research by students and scholars; and it houses a library, which includes a selection of catalogs, monographs and brochures relating to our permanent collection.

Collections Committee

The Collection Committee is charged with reviewing and approving acquisitions and deaccessions to the museum鈥檚 collection. These decisions shape the collection and lay the groundwork for future growth. The Collection Committee abides by the Collection Policy and its decisions support the collecting goals of the museum. The Collection Committee is responsible for reviewing all acquisition and deaccession proposals submitted by the director and/or the museum鈥檚 curator of collections and exhibitions (curator). The Collection Committee meets four times per academic year. The director appoints a chair of the Collection Committee, who serves a two-year term renewable once. The director shall serve as an ex-officio member of the Collection Committee and will cast only tie-breaking votes. The curator and the museum鈥檚 collection manager/registrar shall serve as nonvoting ex-officio members of the committee.

The Collection Committee will comprise no fewer than eight and no more than 12 voting members, exclusive of the chair and ex-officio members. The Collection Committee should include two to three faculty members with expertise in an area of museum collecting, a representative of another collection on campus, and at least one graduate student, as well as representatives of the听community constituency served by the museum. Members serve two-year terms with an option for reappointment.

Teaching Council

The 麻豆免费版下载Art Museum Teaching Council works to integrate CUAM resources into academic life at CU. This Council is responsible for building relationships between museum staff and other educators (all those with teaching responsibilities) with the aim of connecting CUAM collections, exhibitions and programming to courses across campus. Council members have input on how CUAM interfaces with campus and provides guidance on strategic initiatives, including the development of collections, exhibitions and programming. Members are advocates for the museum at their respective departmental meetings and are expected to actively support CUAM events and educational programs. Members are expected integrate exhibitions and/or collections into course curriculum.听

The 麻豆免费版下载Art Museum Teaching Council meets at the beginning of each semester to learn about upcoming exhibitions, recent acquisitions and educational programs. The Council is composed of eight to ten campus educators representing a cross-section of the university, including faculty, instructors, and 麻豆免费版下载employees whose positions carry a teaching component. Term limits are three years, renewable once. Ad hoc sub-committees may be formed to advise on museum strategic initiatives and exhibition development.听

The Council is co-chaired by a 麻豆免费版下载Boulder faculty member and the chief curator and director of academic engagement.

Art Museum Pedagogy Workshop

The 麻豆免费版下载Art Museum invites applications to participate in a summer workshop on interdisciplinary pedagogy using the museum鈥檚 collections and exhibitions. Through this hands-on experience 麻豆免费版下载faculty will discover museum resources and offerings to enhance object-based teaching and experiential learning. Faculty in all colleges and schools are encouraged to apply. Students from disciplines as varied as arts and humanities, business, law, engineering and the social sciences can all benefit from skills taught at the museum. We invite applications from faculty who have not yet worked with the museum as well as from those already familiar with the museum鈥檚 resources.

Over the course of two consecutive afternoons, participants will engage with and practice museum strategies for encouraging dialogueand critical inquiry and will collaborate with museum staff and teaching colleagues to develop a lesson or series of assignments involving 3-5 artworks from the collections. Workshop leaders will meet with participants in advance to determine artwork and themes to meet curricular goals.

Application

To apply, please submit a letter of interest to Hope Saska, Director of the 麻豆免费版下载Art Museum. Please describe your interest in this workshop and indicate course-related themes you hope to address through visual and material culture. Criteria for selection is based on expressed interest in expanding or incorporating object-based pedagogy in the classroom and is not based on prior experience with teaching from objects. We aim to select ten applicants representing a range of experiences and disciplinary approaches.

Workshop goals

  • Participants will learn about museum resources and become familiar with museum spaces available for teaching and learning.
  • Participants will network across departments to create acommunity of instructors interested in expanding pedagogical practice through with object-based learning.
  • Participants will identify 3-5 artworks that they can incorporate in curriculum and will build out a sample lesson or assignment around the artworks.
