Kage Rental Fees
PAYMENT & PRICING
Equipment Rentals are Free
Renting equipment from the Kage is free.Ìý
However, there are an assortment of fees that students could be charged based on violations to the Kage contract, damages or mistreatment of equipment. Late fees, mishandling/mispacking fees, damage fees and cleaning fees have been put in place to encourage students to be present and mindful when dealing with equipment.Ìý
This process helps ensures equipment is available and operational for students to use throughout the semester.Ìý
Fees are outlined below, as well as best practices to avoid being charged:Ìý
If you are going to be late, please call or email The Kage (303-492-1533, thekage@colorado.edu) and explain the circumstances for why you are late. Once you are late by 15 minutes, you will be charged late fees that will be paid upon gear return. Late fees cannot be waived once the student is late by 15 minutes or more.Ìý
Late fees are charged per Item. If a student has 2 or more items on their order, they will be charged $20 per item that is late. This includes any items with missing pieces. An addition $20 will be added each day your equipment is late.Ìý
Below are examples of when a Late fee will be charged, and when it will not be charged.Ìý
| A student is running a few minutes behind. They show up 10 minutes past their check in time.Ìý | The student has not hit the 15 minute mark and will not be charged late fees. However, they will be notified about being late and warned that repeated behavior could result in their cheqroom account being suspended.Ìý |
| A student's family had a medical emergency. They emailed the Kage the night before and explained that they will not be able to return their equipment the following day.Ìý | The student's email will be forwarded to the Cinema Media Manager. From there they will work out a new return time, or look into possibly extending the reservation based on equipment availability and the student's situation.Ìý |
| A student returns equipment 20 minutes late. They claim they called earlier and told us they wouldn't be able to make their original return time. | They will be charged late fees. Students should be sure to schedule return times when they know they will be available.Ìý |
| A student calls to request an extension for their equipment due in an hour.Ìý | Their extension will be denied. If they are not able to return their equipment at their original return time, they will be charged late fees.Ìý |
| A student is trying to return their equipment on time, but is having trouble finding parking. They're already 10 minutes late, and don't think they'll be able find parking in the next 5 minutes.Ìý | They will not be charged late fees. The students has reached out and communicated that they intend to return equipment as soon as possible, are currently attempting to do so, and likely will within the next 20 minutes.Ìý |
If an item/Kit Accessory is lost or broken, you will be charged the FULL RETAIL PRICE (including shipping) to replace it.
If the item is of high value, the student is responsible for paying $500 at the very least.Ìý
Students are subject to a $5 mishandling fee if an item is packaged incorrectly (e.g. cords haphazardly thrown in and smashed by the case, XLR cables wrapped incorrectly, etc.). This fee is applied for EACHITEM. Mishandling fees will NOT be charged if the student is present during the check in process to correct it.
This fee also applies to crucial accessories that have been lost. "Crucial accessories" are defined as small objects that, if missing, renders the entire item inoperable (e.g. a tripod screw).Ìý
Studios and Labs are free to rent. They must be kept clean and restored to the state they were when your reservation started. Reference photos for studios can be found inside the room.
If a studio/lab is found messy after a student’s reservation, they will be charged a $10 cleaning fee that must be paid before they will be able to reserve the space again.
Unpaid fees will result in the student's account being blocked from Cheqroom. This means they will not be able to reserve equipment, studios or computer labs until they've talked with a manager.Ìý
