Kage Policies

GENERAL POLICIES

Facilities and equipment are availableÌý³Ù´Ç students currently enrolled in a CINE course. Equipment access is subject to the student's course level.Ìý

Non-Cinema Studies students are NOT allowed to rent CinemaÌýStudies equipment. However, Alumni may reserve studios over the summer if classes aren't scheduled.Ìý

For questions on studio availability or Alumni requests email: thekage@colorado.eduÌý

Students MUST make a reservation. If they have not made a reservation, they will be asked to come back during our walk-in hours or make an order to pick up the next day. Reservations MUST be made 12-hours in advance (e.g. if you make your order at 10pm, the earliest you'll be able to pick up is 10am the next day).Ìý

Sometimes, assignments spring up last minute. If a student wants to check out equipment without a reservation, they are only allowed to do so during our Walk-in Hours. Any other times, the student will be told to come back during walk-ins, or to make a reservation for the next day.Ìý

It's HIGHLY encouraged that students make a reservation in advance to ensure equipment availability. The Kage will not make an order on the student's behalf, however, we will walk you through how to make one if it's your first time.Ìý

Students can rent gear for a maximum of 48 hours during the week. or a maximum of 96 hours if they're reserving equipment over the weekend. For example, a student can reserve Thursday-Monday, or Friday-Tuesday.Ìý

Reservations longer than the maximum time allowed must be approved by the Cinema Media Manager, Analog Specialist or Lab Coordinator. To request an extension the student must email thekage@colorado.edu at least 24 hours in advance from their original return time.Ìý

A request does not mean an automatic extension.Ìý

If an extension is approved, A kage employee will reach out via email with an updated confirmation email showing your new return time.Ìý

Extended Loans for Graduate Students

Many of our policies still apply to graduate students. This includes the reservation process, and how to request an extension.Ìý

Graduate students may request an extended loan for a particular piece of equipment. This would allow them to use that equipment for an entire year, rather than a few days at a time.Ìý

Extended loans must be, and can ONLY be approved by the Cinema Media Manager.Ìý

*Know that if you request an extended loan, the Kage may ask for you to return the equipment for short periods throughout the semester so that the item can be used for a class. You will be notified of this a minimum of a week in advance from when the class needs the equipment.Ìý

If you're a graduate student seeking a long equipment loan, please email thekage@colorado.edu

Equipment Levels

The classes you are currently enrolled in, or have taken in the past decide what equipment level you are. The reason for this is because equipment is shared with a large group of people, with classes that have different needs. These levels help us ensure that students have the equipment needed to complete required class assignments.Ìý

Students can not climb to a higher level without taking the required class to do so. However, students can take a variety of workshops or certifications that could unlock specific higher level equipment (but not everything).Ìý

Students can view what Level they are and what certifications they've taken by navigating to their user page in Cheqroom.Ìý

They may also reference the Kage Catalogue to view what level applies to which classes, and a master list of equipment available at each level.Ìý

KAGE RENTAL AGREEMENT

Students sign a Kage Rental Agreement every time they pick up equipment. ÌýPlease make sure to show up 5 minutes early to review and sign the contract and avoid any delays.Ìý

This contract covers general policies and expectations when renting equipment out from the Kage, as well as outline any penalizing fees and how to avoid them.

A signed copy of the agreement will be generated on the student's check out and can be reviewed in the attachments tab of their reservation at any time.Ìý
