The UMC is recruiting faculty and staff members to join the UMC Board. In this two-year role, you will work with students to create policy and develop creative solutions to challenging issues that address the UMC budget, capital spending, sustainable practices, building usage, student group office allocations, scholarship distribution, renovation plans and more. Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder’s Staff Council annual summer retreat featured an exciting addition to the agenda: a ribbon cutting launching an on-campus Little Free Library. Organized by Staff Council’s Belonging, Equity, Accessibility and Mattering (BEAM) Committee, the library offers books centered on diversity, equity and inclusion for all ages, with a current focus on LGBTQ+ experiences. 

The Little Free Library is designed to provide interested readers with opportunities to extend their knowledge and perspectives through ongoing book-sharing across the campus community. 

Launching this month at the ARCE building on East Campus, Staff Council is excited to see where the mobile library can roam. Organizers hope that buildings and offices across campus will host the library (indoors) throughout the year—check the Staff Council website for the library’s current location. 

Staff Council would like to add special thanks to Scott Cusack, professional research assistant in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, for his help with the construction of the library.

Participate in a half-day (five-hour) training covering the fundamentals of the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØRestorative Justice (CURJ) program on Oct. 2. The training prepares participants to serve as CURJ community representative volunteers and build confidence in restorative justice practices. These volunteers support students through accountability, harm repair and relationship building while representing community voices and needs.

For those interested in deepening their practice, this training also serves as the first step in the CURJ Facilitator program, a 30-hour training designed to develop restorative justice facilitation skills, expand knowledge of restorative practices and connect participants with the broader restorative justice community. Participants gain hands-on facilitation experience with support from a cohort of trainees and professional staff. The program timeline is individualized and is typically completed over the course of a semester. Learn more about the CURJ Facilitator program in the program overview.

Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØEmergency Medical Services is offering both CPR and Stop the Bleed courses for the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder community. 

The American Heart Association Basic Life Support course trains participants to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide high-quality CPR, use an AED and deliver effective ventilation for adults, children and infants in both in- and out-of-hospital settings.

The American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed course teaches attendees how to identify and stop life-threatening bleeding through the use of tourniquets, wound packing and direct pressure.

Effective July 1, the (APS 5015) was updated to strengthen protections, clarify disclosure requirements and better define how consensual relationships differ from conduct covered under APS 5014. Faculty and staff are encouraged to review the updated policy and contact OIEC with questions.

The College of Music's Piano Pedagogy intern program has a few spots open for beginner piano lessons this semester. 

The program includes nine 45-minute supervised lessons with a junior or senior piano major enrolled in Piano Pedagogy 1. Lessons are open for adults and children ages 6 or older who are absolute beginners at the piano. Total cost of the lessons this semester is $100. Children must have an instrument (acoustic or digital) at home for practice. Adults who have a Buff OneCard may use the piano lab during open hours for practicing.

The recently released teaser for Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder's 150th anniversary documentary film is now available with audio description. 

A video with audio description has a secondary audio track that describes meaningful visual content during the pauses in the original audio track. Audio description helps to ensure video content is accessible and that all viewers can access important visual information. 

How to watch with audio description

1. Navigate to Settings (the gear icon) in the Vimeo video controls. 

2. Under the Audio option, switch the track from Original Audio to English (Audio Descriptions).

The Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder Sustainability Research Initiative is pleased to announce the inaugural Sustainability Research Summit, a major convening of Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder researchers across disciplines and academic units to shine a light on the diversity and depth of sustainability research across campus. 

Free and open to the public, the summit aims to foster collaboration among researchers and connect university research to external partners across the Front Range community and beyond. The summit will serve as an opportunity for the campus community to step outside their disciplinary and academic homes, learn from colleagues and forge connections with the broader community.
