About Travel Grants for APPM Grad Students:
The Graduate Committee met in September 2025 to complete a strategic budgeting exercise for its 2025–26 discretionary funds. We’re pleased to open applications for limited APPM support to help graduate students present their research at professional conferences (e.g., SIAM, APS, AGU). This program exists to ensure students can attend and present when other funding is insufficient—strengthening APPM’s international profile and our students’ professional development.
Ìý
Funding:
-Up to $1,500 per student for eligible costs (travel, registration, lodging, per diem).
-A presentation is required (talk or poster).
Ìý
Eligibility & How to Apply: The applicant must…
1. Be an APPMgraduate student in good standing with an advisor that endorses the application.
2. Submit proof of accepted presentation (e.g., conference program or acceptance email).
3. Demonstrate they have applied to all other relevant funding sources before requesting departmental funds:
Ìý Ìýa. Conference/society travel grant
Ìý Ìýb. Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder Graduate School Travel Grant.
Ìý Ìýc. Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) Travel Grant.
Ìý Ìýd. Advisor research funds (confirmation required).
4. Submit a detailed travel budget estimate and complete a Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØtravel request form.
Ìý
Application Process:
-All application materials should be sent to the GraduateProgram Assistant (GPA) at amgradco@colorado.edu.
-Applications must be received at least a month before the conference date. Note, students may still apply if the appropriate Grad School or GPSG windows have not opened yet, but must apply to these and send proof at the earliest possible date.
-The GPA will verify that documentation is complete and then forward the request to the Graduate Committee.
-The Graduate Committee reviews requests on a case-by-case basis and determines award amounts.
-Awardees must submit a brief post-trip note (1–2 paragraphs) summarizing the presentation and benefits to their research/professional development.
Ìý
Program Philosophy: Departmental travel funds are supplemental insurance, not a first resort. Please treat them as a safety net to promote equitable access when other sources do not fully cover costs.
Ìý
Questions: Please direct any questions to the Grad Chair or amgradco@colorado.edu.Ìý
