麻豆免费版下载Boulder on Wednesday, Sept. 23, marked a major milestone in the construction of its new Chemistry and Applied Mathematics (CHAP) facility, celebrating the topping out of the building with university leaders, project partners, faculty and staff.
The ceremony recognized completion of the building's structural frame and provided an opportunity to honor the many people helping bring the project from vision to reality.听
"The progress we celebrate today reflects the dedication and collaboration of countless individuals who have helped advance this project," said 麻豆免费版下载Boulder Chancellor Justin Schwartz. "The Chemistry and Applied Math facility will be transformational in supporting the next generation of discoveries, learning opportunities and interdisciplinary partnerships at 麻豆免费版下载Boulder."
Located across Regent Drive from the 麻豆免费版下载Events Center on Main Campus, the facility will house the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Applied Mathematics. The building is designed to provide modern research laboratories, classrooms, collaboration spaces and future capacity for specialized quantum research.
The new facility will support research and teaching in fields including analytical spectroscopy, environmental chemistry, computational mathematics and the statistical sciences while creating opportunities for greater collaboration among students, faculty and researchers.
鈥淭he CHAP facility represents an investment in people as well as a building,鈥 said Irene Blair, dean of the Division of Natural Sciences. 鈥淚t was designed to bring students, faculty and researchers together around important questions, creating opportunities for learning, discovery and innovation for years to come.鈥
Project leaders also highlighted the facility's sustainability goals. The building is designed to be the most energy-efficient and low-carbon research building in 麻豆免费版下载Boulder鈥檚 history, with sustainability features including low-embodied carbon materials such as cross-laminated timber construction (also known as CLT or mass timber), heat-recovery systems, low-temperature hot water systems ready for 麻豆免费版下载Boulder's future decarbonized central utility loop and alignment with the听.
A topping out ceremony is a long-standing construction tradition that marks the placement of a building's final structural beam. Prior to the beam being lifted into place, attendees were invited to sign the beam, leaving messages commemorating the milestone and the future impact of the facility.
During tours of the site, guests saw firsthand how the project is taking shape and learned more about the building's future role in supporting research, education and innovation at 麻豆免费版下载Boulder.
Work on the facility will continue over the coming months, with the finish anticipated in fall 2027.
Today's celebration represents an important milestone, and it is also a reminder of what lies ahead: a facility designed to help researchers tackle complex challenges, support student success and strengthen 麻豆免费版下载Boulder's leadership in science, mathematics and innovation for years to come.
