Students support Colorado businesses in B Corp certification
The Masters of the Environment (MENV) Graduate Program offers many different types of courses to students. Specialization courses, general electives and project-based courses allow students a variety of opportunities to dive into areas of interest that span beyond the classroom. The B Impact Clinic is a project-based course offered each spring to students focused on learning more about B Corp certification and corporate sustainability.
As Rose Marcario, former CEO of Patagonia stated, 鈥淭he B Corp movement is one of the most important of our lifetime, built on the simple fact that business impacts and serves more than just shareholders鈥攊t has an equal responsibility to the community and to the planet.鈥澨

The MENV clinic gives students real-world, hands-on, client-facing experiences helping Colorado-based companies complete their B Corp certification or recertification process. Students gain knowledge of the B Corp movement, Certified B Corps, benefit corporations and global efforts to move from a 鈥渟hareholder鈥 economy to a 鈥渟takeholder鈥 economy and use business as a force for good. Students also explore corporate social responsibility and its impacts on employee recruitment and retention, customer acquisition, supply chains, raising capital, business performance and more.
Beyond the benefits to student participants, the clinic also supports local companies seeking B Corp certification by providing them with the skilled support of MENV students, thereby contributing to the growth of socially and environmentally sustainable practices within the local business community. Even if the company students are paired with is not within an industry of interest to them, they will nonetheless learn a great deal about the impact assessment process, sustainability consulting and the B Corp landscape.
This past cycle, MENV students supported in their certification process. Moxie Bread Co. noted in their press release the significance of the program partnership, stating:

With the help of her students in the 麻豆免费版下载Masters of the Environment program, we were able to thoroughly research and compile all the necessary data points to support our application. We truly could not have done it without them!鈥
Another past partner, , mentioned "They (the MENV students) were instrumental in getting us past the finish line鈥攁nd in making sure we did it right.鈥澨
To do it right takes effort. Student groups complete client-facing deliverables like a scope of work, a B impact assessment (a tool used by over 150,000 B Corp companies), V6>V2.1 gap analysis, mid-semester and final project presentations, along with a client report with a readiness assessment and certification roadmap.
