Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder is making serious, measurable progress on campus sustainability — deploying clean energy technologies, electrifying its vehicle fleet, implementing water-efficient systems, diverting waste from landfill, and embedding environmental responsibility into every purchasing decision.

Our operations are guided by the updated Climate Action Plan, a roadmap to cut emissions 50% by 2030 and reach zero emissions by 2050. Progress is tracked, reported, and publicly available through SIMAP, STARS, and CU's sustainability dashboard.

The Campus Is the Classroom

Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder deliberately uses its own facilities, utilities, and land as a real-world testing ground for sustainability innovation. Students, faculty, and staff collaborate with Facilities Management to pilot new technologies, monitor outcomes, and publish results.

Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder’s Climate Action Plan

Updated in 2024, the Climate Action Plan is Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder's roadmap to a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient campus. The goals of the plan are in line with the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). The campus goals are:

ÌýÌý Ìý A 50% reduction (from 2019 baseline) in Scopes 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.

ÌýÌý Ìý A similar 50% reduction in feasible Scope 3 emissions by 2030.

ÌýÌý Ìý A clear path to a zero emissions target for all categories by no later than 2050.

New Climate Action Planning courses at Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder allow students to develop research projects to better understand and reduce emissions from different areas of Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder's campus, including waste, business travel, and commuting.
