Transcripts
What Are They?
Official transcripts are comprehensive records of your academic coursework and progress at the University of ColoradoÌýthat reflectÌýearned degrees as well as credits accepted in transfer or by exam.
Unofficial transcripts contain the same information as official transcripts, but:
- LackÌýthe authenticity features typically required by academic institutions and potential employers
- IncludeÌýyour academic probation information for advising purposes, if applicable
- Display yourÌýpreferred name (official transcripts display yourÌýlegal name)

Official Transcript Hold
Students with financial obligations may have financial holds that prevent the release of transcripts. However, in compliance with Colo. Rev. Stat. (C.R.S.) § 23-5-113.5, official transcripts will be released for the following reasons
- Job application
- Transferring to another postsecondary institution (i.e., attending another college or university)
- Applying for state, federal, or institutional financial aid
- Pursuing opportunities in the military or National Guard
- Pursuing other postsecondary opportunities (i.e., graduate or professional programs)
If you have financial obligations resulting in a transcript hold, you may complete a Request for Release of Financial Transcript Hold. Typically, your hold will be released within 15 minutes of submitting the form. Contact the Bursar's Office with questions about financial holds and obligations.
Unofficial transcripts are available on BuffPortal to current and former students with an active Identikey.
ID Verification
