Temporary Faculty
Each semester the Integrated Design Engineering Program may seekÌýtemporary faculty to teach a variety of courses to engineers and technical professionals in the area of integrated design engineering. These teaching roles are filled on an as-needed basis semester to semester.
Temporary titles for those who teach on a course-by-course basis are inclusive of Lecturer (less than 50% time appointment) and Instructional Associate (equal to or over 50% time appointment or those that have an active 3-year clock).
If hired as an Instructional Associate, this will start a 3-year clock and after that time they will be ineligible to be hired that way again. The clock will be based on the first start date as an Instructional Associate and will not pause with any break in appointment or reduction in FTE.
The titles of Lecturer, Instructional Associate, andÌýAdjoint areÌýgiven to individuals who teach on a course-by-course basis.Ìý
Minimum Requirements:
- A graduate degree or related experience
Preferred Qualifications:Ìý
- Strong background in engineering design principles, including iterative design processes, testing, and analysis.
- Ability to mentor and support first-year students as they transition to university-level engineering programs.
- Familiarity with team dynamics and strategies for fostering effective interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Experience managing multiple project teams, or equivalent leadership experience in coordinating groups and ensuring alignment with goals.
- Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and fostering success among diverse student populations, including underrepresented groups in engineering such as women, racial and ethnic minorities, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities.
- Proficiency in teaching or using a range of engineering tools (e.g., programming microcontrollers, computer-aided design (CAD), design for manufacturability, or other related tools).Ìý
Compensation ranges fromÌý$3,750–$12,900 per course, depending on the teaching assignment, instructor qualifications, and what semester the course is being taught.
Examples of courses that lecturers have taught in our program include:
- GEEN 1400: Engineering Projects
- GEEN 2010: Engineering Tools and Analysis
- GEEN 2851: Statics for Engineers
These appointments are temporary in nature and candidates are hired on a semester-by-semester basis. Temporary faculty appointments are eligible for accrued sick time. Sick time is earned on a prorated basis. This position is eligible for employee sick leave earned monthly on a prorated basis.
