What is Computational Linguistics?

The field of computational linguistics, also known as text analytics, naturalÌýlanguage processing, and informatics, is burgeoningÌýand has become critical to the success ofÌýmainstream global businesses who compete for employees qualified to address these needs. This (AI) discusses the rapidly developing field of AI and the expanding job market for experts in Natural Language Processing (NLP),Ìý machine learning, and data analytics.

Why choose the CLASIC program?Ìý

The Computational Linguistics, Analytics, Search and Informatics Professional Master’s Degree (CLASIC)Ìý is a Ìýtwo-year interdisciplinary degree offered jointly by the ÌýDepartments of Linguistics and Computer Science. The two-year program was developed by Martha Palmer, Research Professor of Linguistics and Computer Science, Institute of Cognitive Science Faculty Fellow, Emeritus Director of CLASIC and a member of the United Nations International Independent Scientific Panel on AI. Faculty include Susan Windisch (Brown),Ìýacting Director of CLASIC and Academic Advisor, as well as professors from Linguistics, Computer Science, and other departments who participate in the Center for Computational Language and Education Research (CLEAR) and Boulder NLP research group.

The provides a solid foundation in computer science, linguistics, and current methods used in NLP and AI, preparing students for careers in language modeling, automatic question-answering, machine translation, and interactive virtual agents.ÌýStudents produce a Capstone Project that runs in conjunction with an internship orÌýCU-based research project. CLASIC graduates become specialists in the application of computers to the processing of natural languages, from major world languages like English,ÌýChinese, Arabic, and Urdu to low-resource languages, such as those spoken by indigenous peoples around the world.
