A Day in the Life of a Leeds Faculty Member
Erin Lionberger is an assistant teaching professor in the Division of Professional Effectiveness (PE) at Leeds. She teaches various courses, including Communication Strategy, BASE, Organizational Behavior and How to Be the Boss. Tag along for a typical day in her life!
I like to start my day with a quick walk around the neighborhood with my 9-year-old pug, Leonardo. He joins me on campus occasionally as my TA—he never does any actual work but does a great job providing emotional support to students!
I typically teach four days each week, and you’ll still catch me pulling over on my drive from Erie to Boulder to take pictures of the Flatirons at least once a week. Even though I was born and raised in Longmont, this view never gets old.
I serve on a handful of committees, including the hiring committee for my division. We’re in our third year in a row of hiring, and we meet often on Zoom to touch base during the process. Here I am with two of my colleagues and hiring committee members, Salma Shukri and Chris Carbone.
Next, I taught a section of BCOR 1030: Communication Strategy. Here, I’m explaining the students’ fi nal project—the division’s annual case competition. We partner with a local company sponsor, and our students work on a real-life communication-centered problem for the last four weeks of the semester.
Between classes, I’m often in my offi ce preparing for upcoming lectures. I invest a great deal of time crafting engaging materials and visual aids each semester, often with a match from my favorite soccer team, Arsenal, playing in the background!
I spend much of my time outside of the teaching realm coaching springboard diving for my old high school district, St. Vrain Valley. I was a diver in high school and college at Boise State. I’ve really enjoyed being back involved with the sport.
