Vision and Purpose. The Future of Business Education.
From the Tandean Rustandy Endowed Dean of the Leeds School of Business

Dear Leeds Community,
Business is a powerful force for good. In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, success requires more than simply keeping up; it calls for bold thinking, creativity, and a willingness to reimagine what’s possible. At Leeds, we are embracing that challenge with purpose, passion, and a clear sense of direction, as outlined in our Strategic Plan.
In this issue of Business at Leeds, we are sharing how we are actively building the business school of the future. Every day, across our classrooms, programs and partnerships, you can see a school that is actively shaping the future of business education through bold ideas and purposeful action.
The world’s most pressing challenges are less likely to be solved in silos and more likely to be addressed by leaders who can connect across disciplines. The future increasingly lies at these intersections. Read about our new interdisciplinary programs and see how Leeds is preparing leaders who move thoughtfully between technical expertise and strategic thinking (p. 18).
In this issue, you will also read how Leeds graduate students are partnering with Boulder Climate Ventures to apply their business education to real-world climate solutions alongside engineers, PhD students, and investors (p. 8). This is business education in action, advancing the ambition of broad impact and reflecting the kind of purposeful leaders Leeds strives to develop.
Of course, even the most forward-looking education ultimately connects to careers. Explore how the traditional entry-level role is evolving, with AI expected to reshape millions of jobs by 2030 (p. 22). Leeds is rising to this moment with a clear and ambitious commitment to preparing students to lead, contribute, and create meaningful impact from the very start of their careers. In this issue, you will also learn how the Badami Office of Experiential Learning is bringing that commitment to life, helping students develop the skills employers value most: applying knowledge, navigating ambiguity, and delivering results (p. 28).
Throughout these pages, you will meet the remarkable people who bring this vision to life: faculty whose research and teaching are redefining business education, staff whose commitment and expertise make our mission possible every day, students whose curiosity and drive set new standards for what is possible, and alumni who demonstrate the impact a Leeds education can have in the world. Their stories do more than inspire. They illuminate, in real and tangible ways, the future of business and the role Leeds is shaping within it.
“Success requires more than simply keeping up; it calls for bold thinking, creativity, and a willingness to reimagine what’s possible.
—Tandean Rustandy Endowed Dean Vijay Khatri
Together, they reflect a business school that is reimagining business education through integrative thinking that connects disciplines, bridges analytical insights into real-world decision-making and aligns organizational success with positive societal impact. We are shaping the future of business education and advancing business as a force for good.
This year, as we celebrate 150 years at the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ, 120 years of business education at CU, and 25 years since the Leeds naming, I am reminded of the generations who built this community and the momentum they set in motion. I am deeply grateful for their legacy and energized by all we will achieve together in the years ahead.
With gratitude,
Vijay Khatri
