Gender Justice League Practicum: WGST 3940

The Women and Gender Studies Student Leadership Practicum, also known as Gender Justice League, isÌýdesigned to give students theÌýopportunity to put what they learn about social justice into practice. Students are nominated by faculty or can apply to participate. Students are selected based on academic performance, commitment to social justice, and leadership skills. Students meet weekly as a group with the faculty advisor and receive one credit hour per semester for their involvement in collaboratingÌýacross three main areas.ÌýGJL plansÌýacademic eventsÌýsuch as speakers, “Conversations at the Cottage,â€�ÌýcoordinatesÌýphilanthropic and activist eventsÌýon a variety of issues, including Denim Days, a week ofÌýactivism in the spring aimed at combating gender-based violence, and finallyÌýmembers publish their ownÌýnewsletter, with student articles focusing on different feminist issues. With these publications, GJL hopes to spread a feminist voice and bring awareness to contemporary social justice issues on campus, in the community, and beyond.
