Infleqtion (NYSE: INFQ), a �鶹��Ѱ�� spinout and global leader in quantum computing and quantum sensing powered by neutral-atom technology, is celebrating the grand opening of the Colorado Quantum Innovation Center (CQIC), its new facility in Louisville, Colorado. The grand opening coincides with growing recognition of the Boulder–Louisville–Broomfield corridor as "America's Quantum Peak," recognizing the region's concentration of quantum research, talent and industry.

“Colorado is leading America’s quantum future, and Infleqtion’s new Quantum Innovation Center is further proof that our growing technology sector draws more businesses to our state and strengthens our economy," said Governor Jared Polis.

The Colorado Connection

Infleqtion’s star continues to rise as Colorado’s quantum hub grows. The company spun out of �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder as ColdQuanta and seems to be everywhere these days, including outer space, while commercializing pioneering research to address needs across several critical markets including positioning, navigating and timing, global communication security and efficiency, resilient energy distribution, and accelerated quantum computing.

It was decades ago but Dana Anderson (JILA, �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder College of Arts and Sciences, �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder College of Engineering and Applied Science) still recalls well the day his research took a major turn. “I started to do atoms instead of photons,” he said. While Anderson makes it sound like a subtle shift–focusing on atoms and subatomic particles instead of particles of light (lasers)–that move has contributed significantly to the present and future of quantum technologies worldwide.

Modendo Inc. was originally founded and incubated in Boulder, Colorado, to develop hair-thin fiber-optic microscopes designed to look deep inside delicate brain tissue for neuroscience research. However, when semiconductor manufacturers approached the team with the need to inspect microscopic, tightly confined spaces inside advanced electronics, the startup discovered a massive, unserved market.

The University of Colorado Connection

Modendo is developing ultra-thin fiber endoscopes—narrower than a human hair—that enable cellular-resolution imaging (<1 µm) in regions of the body previously inaccessible with conventional tools. These advanced, digitally programmable probes, approximately 100 microns in diameter, contain no moving parts and cause minimal tissue disruption, offering a transformative approach to in-vivo imaging. By reaching deep tissue targets with unprecedented precision and minimal invasiveness, Modendo’s technology addresses critical needs in neuroscience, biomedical research, disease diagnosis and medical treatment.

The company’s foundational technology was pioneered through research led by Rafael Piestun, professor of electrical, computer and energy engineering at �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder and is based on early innovations in multimode fiber micro-endoscopy and wavefront shaping. This platform enables real-time, high-resolution image transmission through optical fibers with a cross-sectional area nearly ten times smaller than the thinnest existing endoscopes. Modendo maintains strong ties with the university, including operating an in-vivo imaging lab on campus, and holds issued patents that support its vision of providing safer, more effective imaging alternatives that accelerate recovery and expand the frontiers of medical and scientific exploration.

In an era defined by mineral issues and unexpected supply chains, American startup Mana Battery and French manufacturing giant Saft have come together to prove that the best way to innovate battery technology is to start cutting parts out.

Under a newly signed Joint Development Agreement (JDA), the two companies plan to co-develop, test, and commercialize next-generation anode-free sodium-ion batteries.

Particularly, relying on abundant sodium rather than scarce minerals reduces the carbon footprint and enhances overall supply chain sustainability.

It is an ambitious pairing. Mana, a spinout from �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder, brings a liquid electrolyte platform. Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, brings decades of industrial scaling and military-grade qualification.

The University of Colorado Connection

Mana Battery was founded as a spinout of Chunmei Ban’s laboratory (�鶹��Ѱ��Boulder Paul M. Rady Mechanical Engineering) in October 2023 to commercialize best-in-class sodium battery technology. Sodium-based batteries have the potential to displace lithium-ion batteries in a variety of applications based on their promised low costs, abundant supply chain, and safety, but they have been limited to date due to insufficient cycle lifetimes and energy density. Mana addresses these issues and delivers on the promise of the sodium-ion battery with a proprietary low-cost, safe material and battery cell design platform, providing similar or better energy to Li-ion battery cells with a 45% lower bill-of-materials cost. Founded with a team and advisory board of veteran energy storage entrepreneurs and technologists, Mana has signed testing agreements with Tier 1 partners and is shipping prototypes.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $3.6 million in funding to nine U.S. small businesses to further develop and commercialize environmental technologies through EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. �鶹��Ѱ�� startup Page Technologies was awarded a $400,000 SBIR Phase II award.

EPA is one of 11 federal agencies participating in the SBIR program, a competitive, award-based initiative that helps small businesses explore technological solutions with the goal of bringing successful innovations to market.

Funding is awarded in phases: in Phase I, EPA provides $100,000 over six months to support "proof of concept" for the proposed technology. Small businesses that complete a Phase I award can then compete for a Phase II award of $400,000 to further develop and commercialize the technology—with the potential for up to $100,000 in additional matching funds if the recipient secures an equivalent third-party investment during the project period.

PAGE Technologies was founded in 2023 by Elliot Strand (�鶹��Ѱ��Boulder College of Engineering and Applied Science) and Payton Goodrich to commercialize their innovative low-cost environmental monitoring platform, developed during a collaborative research project as PhD students at �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder and UC Berkeley, respectively. Supported by key research and innovation initiatives, PAGE Technologies is dedicated to transforming agricultural and environmental monitoring, enhancing fertilizer use efficiency, improving water resource management, and advancing climate resilience efforts.
