Biography

Jillian Turanovic is a professor in the Department of Sociology, fellow in the Institute of Behavioral Science, and co-founder and co-director of the . Her research focuses on the causes and consequences of victimization, violence, the life-course, and incarceration. Her work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Justice, the Office for Victims of Crime, and Arnold Ventures. She is the author of Thinking about Victimization: Context and ConsequencesÌý(Routledge), Confronting School Violence: A Synthesis of Six Decades of Research (Cambridge University Press), and editor of Revitalizing Victimization Theory: Revisions, Applications, and New Directions (Routledge) and the Oxford Handbook of Victims and Victimization (Oxford University Press). InÌý2019 she received the Ruth Shonle Cavan Young Scholar Award from the American Society of Criminology. Her current research examines trauma and well-being, school victimization, firearm violence, and prisons. She received her Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Arizona State University in 2015.
