Has your local or home address changed since you completed your preregistration items for this term? If it has, please update your contact information. Maintaining current and accurate address information with �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder is critical for receiving important university communications related to your status, studies and wellbeing.

Safety and emergency notifications require accurate student location information. Access to certain services and benefits are based on your location. Compliance with regulations for international students requires the university to maintain accurate address information. Ensuring your contact information is current allows the university to reach you with necessary updates, alerts and other important information.

How To Do It

To update your contact information:

Log in to Buff Portal.
Select your profile at the top right.
Select "Account Settings," then "Profile and Privacy."
On the contact information menu, select the type of information you want to update (e.g., addresses, phone numbers, emergency contacts).
Follow the instructions on the page to add, edit or delete (if allowed) your information.
To review or change a different type of information, use your browser's back button to return to the menu.

As a �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder student, it's important to understand your rights regarding access to and disclosure of information in your education record. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords you the right to:

Inspect and review your education record
Request amendment of your education record
Consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information in your education record
File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education (Student Privacy Policy Office, U.S. Department of Education, 400 Maryland Avenue, SW, Washington, DC 20202)

To review or request an amendment to your record, contact the university office that maintains the record. This does not apply to grade changes, which are at faculty discretion.

Release of Information

Under FERPA, the university may release your education record information if the disclosure is:

To �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder officials who have a legitimate educational interest
To officials of another institution at which you seek or intend to enroll
To authorized representatives of federal, state or local educational authorities
In connection with financial aid you've applied for or received
To an organization conducting studies for or on behalf of the university
To your parents or guardians (if you have authorized consent or are a dependent student for tax purposes)
To an accrediting organization
To comply with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena
In connection with a health or safety emergency or other exception under FERPA
To fulfill a request for data that �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder defines as directory information

Directory information is student data contained in education records that would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed. Student data that is not directory information may only be released with your documented consent, including in letters of recommendation.

To authorize third-party access to your non-directory education record information, see �鶹��Ѱ��guest access and FERPA consent to release.

You may restrict the release of directory information by placing full privacy on your record. Please note that students on full privacy are not treated differently than other students within the physical or virtual classroom. Their name, image and email address may appear on screen and in the learning management system, and instructors may call on them by name.

Remote & Online Classes

Recordings of lectures or class meetings are considered education records if students' names or likenesses are displayed or disclosed. Instructors may share these recordings with the class, but not with others without documented consent from each student identified in the recording.

Artificial Intelligence

AI development, its uses and tools are rapidly evolving. AI users at �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder should stay current with campus policies and guidance regarding student data privacy, compliance, security and other AI considerations and implications. See Artificial Intelligence at �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder.

You elected full privacy by submitting a FERPA nondisclosure form. To protect your information, �鶹��Ѱ��is required by federal law to follow strict procedures when talking about your education record.

Remember You're on Full Privacy

If you want to discuss your education record in person, you must first present a valid photo ID to confirm your identity. If you call, you must say, "I'm on full privacy, and my security passphrase is...."

Tell Your Authorized Third Parties

If you want to authorize a third party (e.g., a parent or guardian) to contact �鶹��Ѱ��on your behalf, use FERPA consent to release to establish an authorization phrase for them. When they contact CU, they must say, "I'm an authorized third party and my authorization phrase is..."

Consider Potential Impacts

�鶹��Ѱ��Boulder won't publish information about your honors or awards, and your name won’t appear in commencement materials.

If a potential employer or university attempts to verify your degree, �鶹��Ѱ��staff must respond, "Due to data privacy policies, we are unable to respond to your request."

Nondegree faculty and staff can register for �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder Main Campus classes at the start of open enrollment, beginning 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13.

Degree-seeking employees and student dependents using the tuition assistance benefit can register and waitlist during the standard registration periods.

Your Next Steps

Complete the following tasks by the dates indicated:

Submit your tuition assistance benefit application in the employee portal by 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 15 (step-by-step instructions). Review the policy statement and potential tax impacts carefully.
You must apply for and be accepted in a degree-seeking or nondegree seeking program. For nondegree students, use the Faculty/Staff/Dependent Nondegree application.
Register for your class(es) during your registration period.
If you're an in-state undergraduate, complete the one-time COF application by 5 p.m. on Dec. 4, and authorize the use of COF funds by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 11.

If registering for courses at another �鶹��Ѱ��campus (Denver, Anschutz or Colorado Springs), please adhere to the academic calendar and registration dates for that campus.

Note: If you received an undergraduate degree but are still completing requirements for an additional major, please contact your advisor.

Your Next Steps

Enrollment changes like this one may result in an adjustment to your bill and financial aid package. Check your tuition and fee balance in Buff Portal and visit the Continuing Education website or meet with an advisor to learn more about nondegree tuition and fees.

As a nondegree student, you'll register for Main Campus classes through ACCESS in the future. If you wish to pursue another degree, you may:

COF was created by the Colorado Legislature to pay a portion of total in-state tuition for eligible undergrads. There's no limit to the number of students who receive it, and you never have to pay it back.

We sent this email at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, to individuals who needed to receive a 1098-T tuition statement for 2025, didn't have an SSN or TIN on file, and didn't receive the October 2025 version of this email.

You are required by federal law to provide a Social Security number (SSN) or Taxpayer Identification number (TIN) to �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder for tax purposes.*

If you fail to do so, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) may impose a financial penalty of $50 (26 CFR 1.6050S-1(e)).

To resolve this issue, submit an SSN/TIN update form and a copy of your SSN or TIN card to the Office of the Registrar by mail or secure document upload by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Privacy

�鶹��Ѱ��Boulder protects the confidentiality of personally identifiable information and will not disclose an SSN or TIN for any purpose not permitted by law or policy (including FERPA) without your consent.

*Federal Requirement

Section 6109 of the Internal Revenue Code requires you to provide your correct SSN or TIN so �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder can file Form 1098-T (Tuition Statement) with the IRS and provide a statement to you.

Your academic record has been carefully reviewed following the posting of grades for the Fall 2025 semester. You have not met the required 2.000 cumulative �鶹��Ѱ��GPA minimum, therefore, you have been placed on academic alert.

Academic alert is recoverable if you take the appropriate actions. For more information, view �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder’s academic standing requirements.

What Happens on Academic Alert?

A registration hold related to your academic alert status has been placed on your record.

Your unofficial transcript will show that you are on academic alert, but this will not appear on your official transcript. Additionally, you are still eligible to enroll in classes as long as you have resolved your hold(s).

If you improve your cumulative �鶹��Ѱ��GPA to 2.000 by the end of your next semester of enrollment after being placed on academic alert, you will return to good academic standing. Students who do not earn a cumulative �鶹��Ѱ��GPA of 2.000 while on academic alert will be placed on academic warning. Students can use summer to return to good academic standing, but summer enrollment that negatively impacts GPA will not result in academic warning.

Federal regulations require students to make satisfactory academic progress in a program of study to be eligible for financial aid. For additional information, see the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy webpage.
