New Bus Stop Design Improves Safety and Reliability on Colorado Avenue Nancy Portner Mon, 08/03/2026 - 14:32

Before the Fall semester begins, Buff Bus riders will see improvements at two bus stops near the Colorado Avenue and Folsom Street intersection.

These stops are being upgraded to Floating Bus Stops, a design that helps improve safety and keeps buses moving efficiently. With this new layout, the bike lane runs between the bus stop platform and the sidewalk, creating clearer spaces for riders, cyclists, and buses.

What this means for riders:

More predictable and efficient bus arrivals and departures
Improved safety for people boarding and exiting the bus
Reduced delays caused by traffic and vehicles passing buses
More reliable service during winter weather when buses can remain in the travel lane

The new Floating Bus Stops will serve:

Westbound: Stampede and HOP routes
Eastbound: Stampede and Will Vill routes

These improvements are part of ongoing efforts to make campus transit safer, more reliable, and more comfortable for Buff Bus riders and the broader campus community.

Effective Aug. 1, 2026, all �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder campus parking lots will be monitored at all times, and a permit or payment will be required at all times. This change, endorsed by campus leadership, increases parking lot safety and provides simple and consistent parking rules across campus.

Impacted lots

Main Campus: 282, 308, 402, 419, 420, 436, 470

East Campus: 543, 553, 556, 560, 575, 576, 580

Why this change

While most campus lots already require a permit or payment at all times and are monitored 24/7, a small number of lots are unmonitored at night, resulting in increased safety concerns. Patrols through lots that were previously not monitored at night will increase visibility and safety for lot users, most of whom start or end their shifts when a permit or payment is required and are already paying for parking.

Minimizing impacts

Updated signage in all impacted lots will be posted in the weeks to come. Those utilizing the Main Campus lots from 10 p.m. to 7:30am and/or the East Campus lots from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. will be required to purchase permits or utilize short term payment options beginning Aug. 1, 2026.

Starting July 22nd, Transportation Services, the �鶹��Ѱ��Bike Program and Community Cycles will be co-hosting group bike commutes along the Highway 36 bike path to locations in Boulder, including CU's campus. Additional rides on the Hwy 119 Diagonal bike path will kick off once open. The goal is to harness the momentum of bike to work day and offer a supportive way for new and experienced riders to commute together. Full details can be found on Community Cycle's Commuter Hub

The new Grandview Parking Garage is now open and available for employee use by purchasing a daily permit online or paying by the hour via Parkmobile. The garage is located at 1215 Grandview Avenue, north of the new Limelight Hotel. Public parking is available on levels 3 and above. The lower two levels and basement are reserved for guests staying at the hotel.

Daily permits continue to be available in select lots on campus, based on availability. The daily discount continues for employees who are logged into their parking account to purchase their permit.

The parking availability tool can help you find available pay by the hour parking spaces in popular visitor lots.

Starting August 1, 2025, all �鶹��Ѱ��students and employees are eligible for a free Boulder BCycle �鶹��Ѱ��student and employee membership, thanks to a partnership between �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder's Environmental Center and BCycle. Previously, employees received a discounted rate.

This membership gives you unlimited 60-minute rides - perfect for getting around campus or between �鶹��Ѱ��locations. Just download the Boulder BCycle app and use your identikey@colorado.edu email address when registering.

Bike sharing is a convenient, eco-friendly way to connect to public transit, run errands, or simply enjoy Boulder - no need to worry about parking, locks, or maintenance. �鶹��Ѱ��employee and student participation is expected to help push annual BCycle rides past 750,000!

Download the Boulder BCycle app to set up your account.
Click on the "Get a Pass" button.
Select the “�鶹��Ѱ��Boulder Student and Employee” option.
Click on the blue "create account" button. Be sure you use your identikey@colorado.edu email address when registering (this is not your first.last@colorado.edu email address).
You can use the app to check out and return bikes at any Boulder BCycle station
