An abstract audio-visual art piece exploring the existential emotion resulting from sending a camera as far away from Earth as anything has ever been… ever, to take a picture of us all and send it back.

My name is Ben LaPlante and I am a recent media production major graduate from the �鶹��Ѱ�����. I earned my bachelors degree with a concentration in sound practices and a minor in film studies. My work centers on sound as a primary structural aspect rather than a supporting layer, shaping emotional tone and narrative pacing through sonic design. While I work across video, photography, and film, audio remains the foundation of my creative philosophy. My favorite part about this line of work is ambitiously and creatively problem solving.

Pale Blue Dot

This is an abstract music video based around a famous Carl Sagan quote after receiving the famous Pale Blue Dot photo from Voyager 1. After Voyager 1 officially reached the point of becoming the furthest object from Earth ever, Sagan suggested it turn around and take a photo of the planet while it still can. After receiving this picture back, you almost can’t even see Earth at all, it’s a tiny speck in a giant empty image. This triggered many an insightful thought out of Carl Sagan, enough so that he wrote a book about them all to share with us. I find his speech about it to be super impactful and wanted to find a way to exemplify the scale in my own way, through visual and auditory experience.
