Important: Transition to biweekly pay starts in September 2026

Preparing for Payday Change

Dear colleagues,Ìý

You are receiving this message because, based on your current position type as ofÌýJanuary 14, 2026, you have been identified as an employee who will move from a monthly current pay schedule to a biweekly pay in arrears schedule beginning Sept. 27, 2026. BeingÌýpaid in arrears means you are paid after the work period has ended, not before or during it.Ìý

If you hold multiple positions or your job type changes between now and September 2026, your pay schedule requirement may change. However, if you remain in your current nonexempt (federal overtime-eligible) status, you will be required to transition to biweekly pay.ÌýÌý

What is changing?Ìý

BeginningÌýSept. 27, 2026, all nonexempt (federal overtime-eligible) employees will move from a monthly current pay schedule to a biweekly pay in arrears schedule as part of theÌý.Ìý Your salary isn’t changing, but the pay schedule is. Your first biweekly pay period will runÌýSept. 27–Oct. 10, 2026, with your first biweekly paycheck issued onÌýOct. 23, 2026. Visit theÌý for details about the transition timelines and more.

Why Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØis implementing this changeÌý

The university is adjusting pay and timekeeping processes to:Ìý

  • Improve payroll accuracy and reduce manual corrections.
  • Reduce the lag time between earning federal overtime and being paid earned federal overtime.
  • Improve the timeliness of first paychecks for newly hired employees.
  • Pay in arrears allows leave taken in a pay period to be fully processed before payroll runs, aligning how leave balances are reflected on paystubs.
  • Standardize timekeeping practices across all Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØcampuses.
  • Align with industry standards for payroll and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) compliance.Ìý

How Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØwill support youÌý

For employees required to transition to biweekly pay:Ìý

  • Recognizing the financial adjustment associated with nonexempt employees moving from current pay to receiving pay approximately two weeks after it is earned, Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØwill provide a one-time transition payment in the fall to help you navigate the shift from monthly to biweekly pay. This is additional income to support the transition. More details are provided on theÌý and the Boulder Payday Schedule website.
  • We will provide resources on short-term budgeting, estimating your transition payment, and more to theÌýÌýas the project continues. More information will be added this spring, and you will receive additional communications.
  • HR teams will continue to provide guidance, updates, and support.Ìý

Supervisors have already been informed of the upcoming change, and additional detailed communications will continue throughout the year.Ìý
