During and after your trip

Follow these health and safety tips during your trip

  • Stretch or walk during long flights to prevent blood clotsÌý
  • Wash hands often or use hand sanitizer to avoid illness and diarrheaÌý
  • Leave expensive clothing, jewelryÌýand electronics at homeÌý
  • If confronted, put your personal safety first: remain calmÌýand give up replaceable items (like a passport)Ìý
  • Use caution in crowded areas where robberies may be commonÌý
  • Stick to well-lit main roads whenever possibleÌý
  • Use condoms with all partners to minimize STI riskÌý
  • Stay aware of your surroundings, especially if consuming alcoholÌý
  • Use only registered, well-signed taxis and transportation servicesÌý

After your trip, ask your provider which medical considerations apply

  • Complete any vaccination series as neededÌý
  • See your provider for a TB test three months after you returnÌýÌý
  • If you were in a country with malaria risk and develop a fever, seek medical attention immediatelyÌý
