In Memoriam: Professor Emeritus Andrei Rogers

Andrei Rogers in 2018

On August 18, 2026 Professor Emeritus Andrei Rogers passed away at the age of 88. Andrei taught at the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ Geography Department from 1983 to 2007, he was the Director of the Population Program at the Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS) from 1983 to 2003.

Notable Awards:

  • Awarded the Walter Isard Award for Distinguished Lifetime Scholarly Achievement from the North American Regional Science Association (2000).
  • Invited to the International Geographical Union Regional Congress (2006) for his contributions to the quantitative revolution in human geography in the 1960s.
  • Awarded the Mindel C. Sheps Award for his outstanding contributions to mathematical demography, demographic methodology, and the modeling and analysis of population data (2018).

In 2018, Andrei wrote a memoir, But in my case. An immigrant’s life story (iUniverse, 2018).
