The American Society for Civil Engineers is spotlighting research to improve access to clean water in developing countries.听

Even Thomas, an environmental engineering professor and director of the Mortenson Center in Global Engineering & Resilience, led an initiative to use carbon credits to provide sustainable, ongoing funding for water treatment initiatives.

鈥淲ater security is a problem that is getting worse in many places because of climate change,鈥 Thomas said. 鈥淲ater is the first thing affected by a changing climate. It makes dirty water dirtier and droughts and floods more severe. And it happens to the people and places that are the least responsible for climate change but the most susceptible.鈥

Thomas is an expert in water and air testing and treatment with a focus on developing countries.
