Ellen Weintraub served as a commissioner and four-time chair of the U.S. Federal Election Commission from 2002-2025, when she was removed without cause by President Trump. During her tenure, Ellen made her mark as an outspoken advocate for meaningful campaign finance law enforcement, robust disclosure, and combating foreign and corporate influence in our elections. She has been a critic of the system that gives disproportionate influence to billionaire donors and was a persistent voice in 2020 refuting unfounded claims of voter fraud.
Ellen has published articles in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and leading law reviews and is a frequent speaker on news shows and at conferences at home and abroad. Prior to her appointment to the FEC, she was Of Counsel to the Political Law Group of Perkins Coie LLP and Counsel to the House Ethics Committee. She holds degrees from Yale College and Harvard Law School and currently serves on the National Governing Board of Common Cause.
