Interdisciplinary Consultation Hours

Need help with your data? We're here for you! We host open, free consultation hours to help you with your data-intensive research needs. Come with your application, code, or general questions and speak to our experts on research data management, digital humanities, geospatial data, statistical support from LISA, and research computing.

Consults are open to all – from undergrad to faculty and beyond.

Consultations will take place on Tuesdays from 12-1 p.m. in-person at Norlin Library, room E206 or via Zoom, and Thursdays from 1-2 p.m. via Zoom only.
Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. If you are unable to attend our consultation hours and would like to set up a call, email crdds@colorado.edu.
CRDDS provides support for statistical questions through our partnership with the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (LISA).

Research Data Foundations Camp (Virtual)

Join the Center for Research Data & Digital Scholarship from Tuesday, March 17th - Thursday, March 19th, 10am-4pm each day, for our Research Data Foundations Camp designed specifically with graduate students in mind (although all are welcome). The Camp will provide a gentle introduction to data and programming-related research tools that will increase users' access to cutting-edge methods as they pursue their programs and research. No previous experience in coding or programming is required! Those who complete the optional assignments will be eligible to receive �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder’s Research Data Foundations micro-credential. This is a virtual event that will be happening on Zoom.

Mark III AI Education Series – Four sessions remaining!

Dates: Wednesday, Feb 25, Mar 11, Mar 25 & Apr 8, 2:00-3:00p MT

NVIDIA, Mark III Systems, and �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder Research Computing are co-hosting an AI/Machine Learning Education Series for �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder and its greater community for Spring 2026. This five-session bi-weekly education series is 100% virtual and will include both tutorials and virtual "rapid labs" for attendees delivered via JupyterNotebook. There will be a series of sessions that will feature industry experts in Machine Learning, who will dive into current trends around AI/ML. The sessions do not require any specific background. Participants may register for specific sessions or all sessions. There are four sessions remaining:

AI Unlocked: Empowering Higher Education through Research and Discovery

AI Unlocked: Empowering Higher Education through Research and Discovery workshop this June 2-3 in Denver, Colorado.
is now accepting applications! You may apply via the AI Unlocked Application Form

When: June 2-3, 2026
Where: Denver, Colorado
AI Unlocked provides a unique opportunity for researchers, educators, and students to learn how to integrate AI tools in research and classroom settings.

Registration is free for the day and a half-long event, which is sponsored by ACCESS and NAIRR Pilot and University of Colorado, Boulder.

Space is limited to 150 participants. We anticipate receiving more applications to attend than available spots.

Applications close on March 9, 2026.
Travel support may be available for hotel accommodations and economy flights for those traveling from outside a 50-mile radius of the event location. Travel support is covered as part of the ACCESS Support grant #2138286. ACCESS is an advanced computing and data resource program supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure awards.

Love Data Week Is Here!

It's International Love Data Week! This year's theme is Where's the Data? The goal is to connect everyone – from data newcomers to veterans – with the training and resources they need to make progress on issues close to their hearts. While there are data events happening around the world (find one here), at �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder we're offering unique events looking at data close to our hearts.

Once again, we're holding the Buffalization Data Visualization challenge! In celebration of �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder's 150th anniversary we're inviting you to use a dataset of historic campus buildings to create a data visualization with your preferred software or tools. (You can even hand make or draw a visualization!) The deadline to enter is Sunday, February 15th. For more information visit our website.
Today (February 9 at 1:30) we're offering a workshop Growth Not Violence: Collecting, Interpreting & Sharing Data about Trans & Nonbinary People. Data about trans people can provide insights that improve the well-being of the community, and encourage widespread integration with society; this data can also inadvertently cause profound harm. Attendees will consider the whole data lifecycle from research planning to presentation. Registration required.
Join us for a virtual hackathon co-hosted by the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) and the Environmental Data Science Innovation & Impact Lab (ESIIL)! This event will provide an introduction to the NSF Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) Machine Learning Challenge, including a virtual space to form a team and get started with a submission. The goal of the challenge is to predict out-of-domain biological, ecological, and environmental data. The challenge closes Feb 22, 2026.

Research Data Foundations Camp (Virtual)

NSF FAIR Facilities and Instruments project co-led by CRDDS releases recommendations

The “FAIR Facilities and Instruments” project, co-led by CRDDS researchers, released its “Recommendations Toward a Framework for Adoption and Use of Persistent Identifiers for Research Facilities, Platforms, and Instruments”. Funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Findable Accessible Interoperable Reusable Open Science (FAIROS) Research Coordination Network (RCN) program (NSF Awards 2226396, 2226397, 2226398), the FAIR Facilities and Instruments RCN project is led by a collaboration between the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research, �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder, and Florida State University. The project team developed their recommendations from discussions at three in-person workshops and many other conversations with a wide range of communities over the last three years. These recommendations provide an important step in advancing the use of persistent identifiers (PIDs) for research facilities, platforms, and instruments to enable open and transparent science, discoverability of research instrumentation, and attribution for research facilities and the people who operate them.
