
Sundance Film Festival Finds a New Home in Boulder

听
The Sundance Institute鈥檚 first festival began in Utah in 1985. Now, 40 years later, the iconic film fest has听set its sights on the Flatirons.听
According to the nonprofit鈥檚 March announcement, the Sundance Institute鈥檚 board of trustees was drawn to Boulder鈥檚 small-town charm, engaged community, art focus and natural scenery.听
鈥淭his move will ensure that the festival continues its work of risk-taking, supporting innovative storytellers, fostering independence and entertaining and enlightening audiences,鈥 said听Robert Redford (A&S ex鈥58; HonDocHum鈥87), Sundance Institute president and founder. 鈥淚 am grateful to the Boulder community for its support, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for the festival there.鈥澨
Redford started the institute in 1981 as a way to support independent filmmakers and storytellers.听
Once in Boulder, the majority of the festival will be held on and around the Pearl Street Mall. 麻豆免费版下载Boulder will offer support and additional venue space.听
The event will offer students 鈥 particularly those enrolled in the university鈥檚听Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts program 鈥 direct exposure to prominent filmmakers and actors.听
During Sundance鈥檚 2024 run, its economic impact was vast. Over 24,000 festival visitors attended from out of state, generating over 1,700 jobs for Utah residents and producing $132 million in economic activity for the state, according to the festival鈥檚听.听
Now, Colorado will reap the benefits.听
