Alumni beer makers to pour their favoritesÌý

After surviving melanoma and thyroidÌýcancers in her early 30s, °²¹°ù±ð²ÔÌý±á±ð°ù³Ù³ú (Psych’99; MBA’05) adopted aÌýgluten-free diet as part of her treatmentÌýplan. That meant a lot of beersÌýwere off the menu.

“Beer is meant for certain occasions,â€Ìýsaid Hertz, who worked for Miller-Coors for a decade. “Being a socialÌýperson, I felt there just weren’t manyÌýgluten-free options.â€

So she started making her own, andÌýearlier this year founded Colorado’sÌýfirst gluten-free brewery, HolidailyÌýBrewing Co., in Golden.Ìý

Hertz will be one of at least half-a-dozen Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØbrewers serving samplesÌýat Homecoming Weekend 2016. She’llÌýjoin alumni from Sanitas, West Flanders,ÌýFate, Ratio Beerworks, UpslopeÌýand Bootstrap at Buffs on Tap, aÌýbeer tasting by and for alumni in theÌýKoenig Alumni Center’s backyard. TheÌýOct. 14 event includes a barbecue mealÌýand costs $15.Ìý

The event is one of many festivitiesÌýscheduled for the Oct. 13-15 reunionÌýweekend. Others include the BuffsÌýBash at the Lazy Dog and the annualÌýparade and pep rally on Pearl Street.ÌýOn game-day, the free, family-friendlyÌýRalphie’s Corral tailgate will takeÌýplace three hours before the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØversusÌýArizona State matchup at Folsom Field.Ìý

In all, 17 reunions areÌýplanned, including those ofÌýthe 50-Year and Golden AnniversaryÌýClub and the SilverÌýBuffaloes Alumni Band.ÌýFor Hertz, participatingÌýin Buffs on Tap will be aÌýreunion of its own: SheÌýattended last year, just as sheÌýwas getting started.Ìý

A year later, she’s in business,Ìýoffering seven beersÌýin her Golden taproom, includingÌýHolidaily’s flagshipÌýFavorite Blonde Ale.Ìý

“Buffs on Tap was the firstÌýtime I really served a beerÌýto somebody,â€ she said. “It’sÌýwhere I feel like we started.â€Ìý
