On Monday, Sept.14, Colorado Mesa University’s Languages, Literature and Mass Communication program and �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder’s College of Communication, Media, Design and Information are presenting Who's Telling the Truth? What Media Literacy, Authenticity and Gatekeeping Mean Now in Grand Junction on the CMU campus.

This interactive community conversation, which is free and open to the public, will include a moderated panel with reporters and researchers followed by audience participation at table conversations to address: What is needed to ensure our communities receive news they trust on the issues important to them.

Chuck Plunkett, a longtime professional journalist who is the director of �鶹��Ѱ��News Corps, a capstone program for �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder journalism students, will moderate the panel.

“Strong, independent local newsrooms are vital to protecting and preserving our democracy,” said Plunkett, who served as the editorial page editor for The Denver Post and is widely known in the industry for his stance on the importance of local journalism for preserving democracy. “So is gathering to engage with one another to discuss the quality of the offerings that inform the public square.”

Panelists include Stina Sieg, Colorado Public Radio Western Slope Reporter; Julia Wildman, editor-in-chief of the CMU Criterion; Holly Oberle, CMU associate professor of political science; and Pat Ferrucci, �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder’s journalism department chair.

As part of the program, Laurena Davis, CMU assistant professor of mass communication, will lead the table conversations with participants.
