GEAR FRIDAYS

Gear Friday: Every Friday (and Wednesdays too!)

Kage: GF BTS 7

Want more hands-onÌýexperience with film equipment? Starting in Fall 2025, Gear Friday is undergoing a revamp.Ìý

Every Friday (And Wednesday) 11 AM - 2 PM, the Kage will host office hours.Ìý

Whether it be you have a camera shot you don't exactly know how to accomplish, or there's a piece of gear that you're dying to learn more about, you can now stop by and see what we have on hand to teach you.Ìý

The Kage makes no promises that the item you want to train on is available, unless you have already arranged an appointment prior to your arrival. If you want to stop in without an appointment, that's a risk you've decided to take.Ìý

You have the ability to reserve the equipment you want to train on in advance. Just be sure to change the color label of your reservation to "Training/Certification". This notifies the Kage that you'd like to be trained on these items so we don't charge you rental fees upon your arrival.Ìý

Kage Workshops

Throughout the semester, the Kage will hold a variety of Gear-related workshops aimed to help students build their technical knowledge, and learn equipment they may not encounter in their time here at Boulder. Students must RSVP to these workshops in order to attend.Ìý

RSVP Coming Soon...

ÌýStudents may get 1-on-1 instruction with a Cinema Camera of their Choice (Blackmagic Ursa, Blackmagic Pocket 4K, Canon C200, RED Epic Dragon, Sony FX2). They will learn what cameras work best in varrying scenarios, and gain in-depth technical knowledge on how to best utilize the camera of their choice.Ìý

Students will learn the set up and management of equpment that supports movement and positioning of Cameras, Lights and Sound equipment. This includes advanced rigs, such as Multi-Cam Set Ups with Sync Sound, Video Village Trouble Shooting, and Advanced Movement

Keep checking back for more!Ìý

How Does Gear Friday Work?

  • Stop by the Kage Friday/Wednesday 11 AM - 2 PM, no appointment necessary.
  • We ask that you come in with an Idea of what equipment you'd like to train on. We may limit the amount of items you want to certify on based on time constraints.
  • You may reserve the items you want for training free of charge. If you wish to take these items home, you will be charged a rental fee.
  • Once you've been certified, you will have access to the items on your Cheqroom account. Please bear in mind that not every item will be available after a certification. Certain cameras, lights and sound equipment are still only available based on what classes you're enrolled in.
    • Specialty items, like Gimbals, jibs, and timecode generators/slates can be made available.Ìý
