Erin Marie Furtak is Interim Faculty Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and Professor of STEM Education at the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ. A former high school science teacher, Erin has spent her career studying how educators learn, experiment, and improve their classroom practice over time.

Her research focuses on formative assessment, teacher professional learning, and creating more equitable learning environments for students. Much of her work has taken place in long-term partnerships with teachers and schools, an approach that has shaped her belief that educators learn best through curiosity, collaboration, and close attention to the realities of practice.

Erin is excited to contribute to the many opportunities the CTL creates for innovation, collaboration, and learning from one another and from practice. She brings her experiences as a teacher, researcher, mentor, faculty member, and campus leader, along with a strong belief that high-quality instruction is an essential element of a thriving research-intensive university. In particular, Erin is interested in supporting faculty as they find approaches that enrich student learning while also making the work of teaching sustainable, rewarding, and joyful.

Outside of her academic work, Erin is also a creative writer. She enjoys running, hiking, knitting, and spending time outdoors in beautiful Colorado.
