ASIANetwork CONFERENCE

April 16-18, 2027 | Seattle University

"Crossing Currents: Confluences, Conflicts, and Connections"
ASIANetwork welcomes student participation in our conferences! The ASIANetwork conference is the leading venue for undergraduate students with an interest in Asia, Asian American studies, and Asian diasporas to share their academic work — including course projects, research, study abroad experiences, and creative/artistic efforts — with a community of peers and educators from across the country and beyond. ASIANetwork presentation proposals are reviewed by a committee of faculty before acceptance. Student presentations are generally in the format of posters: students orally explain and answer questions about their projects at a poster session during the conference.

In addition to panel presentations and roundtable discussions on a wide range of topics, keynote talks by renowned scholars and teachers, performances and exhibitions, the conference offers students an opportunity to network with each other and meet representatives of numerous colleges and universities, foundations, and organizations such as Fulbright.

The Teddy Amoloza Conference Travel Award provides travel grants to undergraduate students.

ASIANetwork - Luce Foundation
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ASIAN LANGUAGE LEARNING

ASIANetwork invites applications for scholarships, up to $5,000 each, for the ongoing study of Asian languages at the undergraduate level. The award pays full or partial tuition for rigorous coursework in an Asian language not available at the student’s home college or university (e.g. no language courses at all are offered or higher-level language courses are not offered). Courses can be taken in-person, online, or in a hybrid format at accredited or reputable institutions in the USA or abroad. Applicants must have completed at least one year of language study by the application deadline. Scholarship awards can be applied for one to two semesters of language study during the academic year or four to eight weeks of summer coursework. Awardees are expected to engage in outreach activities and the promotion of language learning after completing their scholarship-funded language courses. See full information and application here.

STUDENT VIDEO CHALLENGE

The ASIANetwork Student Video Competition provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively in a multimedia video. One track facilitates focused and direct interaction between students at ASIANetwork and Asian undergraduate institutions. Student teams will examine a current global issue from a comparative perspective and, in a multimedia video, present their conclusions. Another track invites U.S. students (solo or team) to present their research results on the program theme in a video. Winning entries receive cash prizes and will be promoted on the ASIANetwork website and featured at the Annual Conference. See full information and application here.

East-West Center
Honolulu, Hawaiʻi | February 11-13, 2027

Call for Abstracts
The East-West Center International Graduate Student Conference (IGSC) offers a collaborative and supportive space for graduate students to share their work, receive thoughtful feedback, and build conversations across fields and regions. We welcome proposals for presentations in diverse formats including academic papers, creative works, performance, and film. Undergraduates are also welcome to submit proposals that meaningfully engage with the conference theme. Participants may choose to present in person at the East-West Center or virtually via a live online platform, enhancing accessibility for international and remote attendees. Presentations should clearly connect to the conference theme, both in the abstract and delivery. The IGSC 2027 theme is Weaving Knowledge for Shared Indo-Pacific Prosperity.

Description of Conference Theme
Knowledge we engage with today is not fixed or static. Knowledge systems are continuously evolving and adapting to the needs, aspirations, and emerging challenges of people and communities around the planet. Knowledge systems are also shaped through relationships, across cultures, and with the environment, and as such, learning is not merely the acquisition of information, but a relational and reciprocal process grounded in interaction, experience, and connection.

IGSC 2027 encourages conference participants to elevate their approaches to addressing economic security in the Indo-Pacific region, across social, technological, political, and environmental challenges. These issues cannot be addressed through isolated disciplinary perspectives alone. As such, IGSC 2027 invites participants to explore how cross-cultural dialogue, relational learning, innovation, and collective action can make communities more resilient, build sustainable economies, and foster regional cooperation.

Abstract submissions
All abstract submissions must be made through the secure Submittable online platform. The deadline to submit abstracts is September 30th, 2026, 23:59 hrs (Hawaiʻi Standard Time). Cornell Winter Program in Cambodia - Heritage History and Identity

In collaboration with the Center for Khmer Studies (CKS), Cornell's Southeast Asia (SEAP, Einaudi) Study Abroad program in Cambodia will provide an in-depth focus on the cultural heritage of Cambodia both past and present. This winter course will focus on Cambodian heritage past and present — how it's been created in the past, including the city of Angkor, and how that heritage and history is understood and engaged today. We will visit historical sites as well as museums and other relevant sites, including performances, where history is remembered and engaged. There will be lectures, including by Cambodian experts, as well as film showings. Based primarily out of Siem Reap, Cambodia, CKS has a long-standing partnership with Cornell to help us arrange in-country logistics as well as other relevant excursions while in Cambodia including the capital, Phnom Penh. Non-Cornell students are encouraged to apply at this link by September 25.

The Japan Foundation and Social Science Research Council are pleased to announce the next round of institutional grants for the “SSRC–JF Next Generation Japan Studies Development Program,” an initiative designed to cultivate interest in Japan and support the development of the next generation of scholars in Japanese Studies.

This initiative comprises three components:

Study Tour Grants: for undergraduate and master’s students to travel to Japan
Postdoctoral Fellowships: for fellowships in the U.S.
Visiting Professor Grants: for Japanese professors to teach and research in the U.S. for up to 6 weeks

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Center for South Asia has announced the Call for Proposals for the 54th Annual Conference on South Asia. This year’s theme, “Transcending Borders and Nationalism – South Asia as cultures, histories, and topography,” invites interdisciplinary proposals related to all countries of South Asia.

The conference will be held in person from October 28–31, 2026, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Paper proposals deadline passed; Other submissions (events, ads, exhibitors) deadline: September 1, 2026

Participants are encouraged to review submission guidelines and note that all presenters must register. Special Topics Round Tables are also welcomed, offering space for timely and engaging discussions beyond traditional academic panels.

Additional updates include optional program book purchases and revised virtual participation guidelines, with at least one presenter required to attend in person.

In this session from Campus Compact's Impact Awards Summer Series , �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder's own Lynn Kalinauskas (Director of the Program for Teaching East Asia) will present on the award-winning Teaching East Asia through Picture Books program.

Spanning three years to date (2024-2026), the program trains �鶹��Ѱ�� students as interns who develop research and teaching skills, commitment to global education, cultural diversity and civic mindedness through service. Each �鶹��Ѱ��student works on a picture book that focuses on a specific region of East Asia and a theme (natural sciences in 2024, geography in 2025 and biography in 2026). Mentored by staff from the Program for Teaching East Asia, the interns conduct research, develop a lesson and activity based on their book and practice the needed skills to work with young students across Colorado.
