Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder to Release Confirmation Deposits Earlier Starting Spring 2026

In a move aimed at improving the student experience and reducing administrative overhead, Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder will begin releasing confirmation deposits to student accounts during their first semester of enrollment, starting Spring 2026.

What’s Changing

Previously, Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder held the $200 confirmation deposit, which was paid when a student confirmed their intent to enroll, until the student graduated or separated from the university. At that time, the deposit was either applied to any outstanding balance or refunded directly to the student.

Beginning Spring 2026, the deposit will be applied to tuition bills for new and continuing students, helping reduce upfront costs and simplifying the process.

Timing

  • Continuing students will have their deposits applied to their accounts no later than January 2026.
  • New students starting Spring 2026 will see their deposit applied to the Spring 2026 bill after census date (typically the third Friday of the term).
  • Students beginning in Summer 2026 and moving forward will have their deposit applied to their account as soon as tuition and fees are available to view in the student portal.

What Students Need to Know

  • The $200 confirmation deposit is still required at the time of acceptance.
  • Students who do not attend classes after confirming enrollment will forfeit the deposit.
  • No action is required from students. The deposit will automatically be released to their student account based on the timing outlined above.

Why the Change?

Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder’s decision to release deposits earlier is based on feedback from students and staff, and aims to address operational challenges:

  • Students who separate from the university often don’t update their address or banking information, delaying deposit release.
  • International students face difficulties cashing checks abroad.
  • Streamline refund processes and reduce administrative costs.
