Exhibit explores identity through ancient coins
'Expressions of Identity in Ancient Greek Coins' opens Wednesday as a collaboration between the Department of Classics and the 麻豆免费版下载Art Museum
A new exhibit opening Wednesday at the 麻豆免费版下载Art Museum will celebrate the stories and history of ancient Greek and Roman coins, highlighting student research as well as the campus partnerships bringing the exhibit to fruition.
鈥淓xpressions of Identity in Ancient Greek Coins鈥 will open with a celebration from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. The exhibit, which has been jointly curated by Beth Dusinberre, a professor of distinction in the Department of Classics, and Hope Saska, 麻豆免费版下载Art Museum director and chief curator, features ancient Greek and Roman coins that served not only as currency, but as media for communicating political messages and civic pride.
The exhibit features coins from the collection of John Nebel, including one minted by Brutus that celebrates the Ides of March, as well as Roman coins from 麻豆免费版下载Boulder鈥檚 . It builds on work done by students in Dusinberre鈥檚 Fall 2025 class on Greek coins.
The public is invited to attend the opening celebration Wednesday afternoon, and refreshments will be served.
