Sangbok KimÌýearned his Ph.D. in Korean language and linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His research focuses on fostering learner autonomy in the era of generative AI, designing AI-enhanced instructional materials, applying evidence-based principles of language and educational pedagogy, and developing data-informed curricula for language education. He also possesses extensive expertise in online language education, including designing and teaching asynchronous online Korean courses.

He is the co-author of the Ìýtextbook series (Beginning 1–2Ìýand Intermediate 1–2) and led the development of its app-based counterpart. He has also developed several AI-supported learning platforms, including , a one-on-one speaking practice system featuring AI conversation partners, and , an interactive language-learning platform equipped with a customized ChatGPT-based teaching assistant and other built-in AI tools that provide real-time feedback and assessment for Korean language learners. His work centers on leveraging emerging technologies to create effective, engaging, and accessible language-learning experiences.
