AI Strategic Steering Committee

As artificial intelligence continues to shape higher education, Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder is expanding its Artificial Intelligence Strategic Steering Committee (AISSC) to lead a more connected, systematic approach to AI that supports students’ learning, prepares them for success in an AI-enabled world and strengthens how the university approaches teaching and learning, the student experience, research and creative work, and operations. The expanded committee brings together campus leaders from academic affairs, operations and shared governance, along with students, faculty and staff to strengthen alignment and guide AI-related decision-making.

Originally formed in spring of 2024, the AISSC included representation from research, teaching and learning and administrative domains. Today, the AISSC plays an impactful role through the expanded use of subcommittees and advisory roles. This committee will foster collaboration campuswide to develop a comprehensive AI ecosystem tailored to Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder’s unique strengths. Learn more about the AISSC charge.

  • The committee is charged to advise on AI policies, recommend investments, and ensure equitable access to AI tools like ChatGPT Edu credits.
  • The committee will build on the foundation of AI use in research, education, and operations that has existed on our campus for several years; will incorporate shared governance leadership; and will continue to lead campus efforts associated with emerging AI questions and opportunities.
  • The committee will coordinate subcommittees focused on administrative functions, research, teaching, and student success to align campuswide AI efforts.
  • The committee is not meant to override the authority of existing campus units or procedures or to infringe faculty rights and responsibilities, but to collaborate on and coordinate activities and policies involving AI.
  • This committee will remain active through July 1, 2029, at which point it will be evaluated for renewal, revision, or sunsetting.

The AI Strategic Steering Committee is charged at the direction of Chancellor Justin Schwartz and aligned with the University of Colorado System's Administrative Policy Statement on Generative Artificial Intelligence. The committee also serves as Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder's primary point of collaboration with the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØSystem and other campuses, supporting a consistent, responsible, and strategic approach to the adoption and governance of generative AI across the university and carrying forward the same aim that initially shaped this effort: thoughtful implementation of AI that reflects Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder's needs and values.
